Thanks for visiting the newly redesigned That’s Appsolutely Genius! blog! I created this blog several years ago as a means for sharing engaging early education and elementary-level educational resources for educators, parents and tutors. Now, I am so excited to relaunch the blog with a new look and updated content. A huge thank you to Rissa at Riss Design at Etsy.com for my awesome logo, buttons and layout! (you can also find Rissa on Facebook and Instagram).
As an educational technologist at a K-12 independent school for more than nine years, I have experience working with faculty and students as a technology trainer and teacher. Most of my time in this position was spent in the Lower School division where I taught keyboarding and computers and helped teachers with their classroom technology needs. I was also involved in the implementation and training of interactive whiteboards (Smartboards, Promethean, etc.) and iPads as well as the creation and management of course content on the school’s learning management system. I love all things technology, especially when it comes to using them for literacy and math instruction in the early elementary grades.
I am also a certified educator (in Florida) who is passionate about finding and creating content for use in the classroom. Please visit my Teachers Pay Teachers store, also named “That’s Appsolutely Genius!”, to see the content I have created. I am in the process of updating all of the content in my store and will be adding new resources as well.
In addition to my experience with technology, I am also passionate about early literacy, an interest that inspired me to complete the Orton-Gillingham training. I use this approach to tutor students in reading and I love it because it is multi-sensory, engaging, fun and it really works.
Additionally, I have participated in various projects involving the curation review and development of elementary iPad apps and web resources, including a contributor for Participate Learning and a Summer Teacher Champion team member for Squiggle Park, an early literacy app for Pre-K through 1st grade.
In my spare time, when I am not tutoring, working on my blog or freelancing, I enjoy spending time with my husband and 6-year-old son.
